Achievements of PIA

Here are some of the achievements of PIA (Pakistan International Airlines).

(1) First airline in the world to operate scheduled helicopter services

(2) First Asian airline to land in Norway and the first Asian airline to start flights to Oslo, the capital city of Norway

(3) First non-communist airline to fly to the People’s Republic of China, and operate a service between Asia and Europe via Moscow

(4) First airline in Pakistan to operate a flight with an all female crew at command and in the cabin

(5) First airline in the world to operate the Boeing 777-200ER, 777-200LR and 777-300ER together (all three variants available on the market)

(6) In 2005, the airline was awarded the IATA Operational Safety Registration (IOSA)

(6) PIA was given the first place award for the biggest volume increase in 2006, by Frankfurt Airport Authority

(7) First airline in the world to take delivery of the Boeing 777–200 Longer Range Variant

(8) PIA was given three domestic awards in 2008: The “Brands of the Year” Award, “Consumers Choice Award” and “One The Best Airlines Award (Cargo)”

(9) PIA was awarded a shield by Presidency of Civil Aviation in Saudi Arabia in recognition of distinguished Passenger Services compared to other airlines conducting Hajj operations 2009–2010 at Jeddah Airport

(10) First airline from an Asian country to fly the Super Constellation.

(11) First Asian airline to operate a jet aircraft.

(12) First Asian airline to be granted maintenance approval by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Air Registration Board, predecessor of the British Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)

(13) First airline to show in-flight movies on international routes

(14) The first airline in South Asia to introduce auto-ticketing facility

(15) The first airline in the world to fly to Tashkent, capital of the then newly independent state of Uzbekistan

(16) First airline in the world to start Air Safari with jet aircraft

(17) First airline in the world to induct the Boeing 777-200LR, the world’s longest range commercial airliner

(18) PIA Flight Kitchens in Karachi were awarded the HACCP Certification

(19) PIA has been ranked as a 3-star airline by Skytrax, the world’s official airline and airport reviewer.

(20) PIA trained the staff of many other international airlines such as Emirates.

But, Alas ! due to corruption, nepotism and negligence PIA has become a big white elephant. PIA is making loss of about 5 to 6 crores (Pakistani Rupees) everyday! The total loss has crossed 92 billion (Pakistani Rupees). PIA has 40 aircrafts in its fleet out of which 12 are incapable of flying.
